Laurel Bank Vineyard is a boutique vineyard at Granton, southern Tasmania. Granton overlooks the Derwent River west of Hobart, a fifteen minute drive from the city centre (18 kilometres/11 miles). The picturesque, three hectare Laurel Bank Vineyard produces a range of medal and award-winning cool climate wines including pinot noir, merlot, cabernet, sauvignon blanc and cabernet franc. You can taste the range of wines at the cellar door by appointment and enjoy the great views of the Derwent River. Tasmania's cool climate sets it apart from the rest of Australia as a prime wine-growing region. The Island's first experiment with grapevines led to a white wine being shown at the Paris Exhibition in 1848. Since then, the Tasmanian wine industry has grown to over 200 vineyards, producing more than 6,500 tonnes of grapes per year. Tasmania's cool climate with its long, sunny autumns is perfect for growing intensely-flavoured Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Gewürtztraminer and Riesling grapes.
