Make your own way to Penfolds Barossa Valley Cellar Door for your morning or afternoon winemaking session. As you start your 1-hour experience in the Winemaker's Laboratory, hear from your expert instructor about Penfolds' beginnings in 1844 at the Magill Estate in the Adelaide Hills. The winery then opened the Barossa Valley location in 1911 and greatly expanded its production here in the 1970s as the number of vineyards increased in the Barossa Valley region.

After receiving an overview, delve into the details of winemaking. Learn the features of different wines and how to go about developing a blend that shines.

Using the provided grenache, shiraz and mourvedre varieties — the same ones that make up Penfolds' renowned Bin 138 wine — apply the art and science of winemaking into the creation of your blend. Your instructor answers any questions that you may have and assists you throughout the blending process.

Once you have mastered your recipe, your wine is bottled and presented to you to take home.

At the end of your 1-hour winemaking class, you may want to see more of the estate on your own. You can sample premium wines in the tasting room or stroll around the grounds before continuing on to your next destination.

    Something different and unique to the usual wine tasting, mix and blend your own to make your own wine! A great little experience.

    Such a great experience and our host Annie was fantastic. Had a lot of fun making our own wine and learning about the region. Also did a tasting with Vicki who had lots of knowledge to share. Annie and Vicki both had great recommendations for lunch and other cellar doors to visit. Would recommend the experience to anyone. Couldn’t speak highly enough of the whole experience!

    Awesome experience. Staff were amazing and made us feel so welcome. Great to have a chat with and we got looked after very well. Would defiantly recommend this experience to anyone who enjoys wine!

    Completed the ‘build your own blend’ as well as the complimentary tasting at Penfolds today and were treated to an incredible experience by staff. Staff were very friendly, generous and welcoming! Vicki ran our build your own blend and she was super knowledgeable and made the session very enjoyable, she treated us to a tasting afterwards with the help of Kim! We felt very spoiled with our tasting experience getting to taste some incredible wines! After completing some tastings at smaller wineries I can safely say this is a must do Barossa Valley tasting, staff were incredible despite it being super busy!
